Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is acupuncture painful?
The simple answer is NO. You might feel a slight pinch during the initial insertion, but many patients are surprised to find that I had already inserted the needles. They are very thin and flexible....much thinner than your typical syringe. The greatest compliment I can get from my patients is if they fall asleep on my table....which happens fairly often.
  • Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is incredibly safe. A fully licensed acupuncturist undergoes at least 4 years of extensive training followed by National Medical Board examinations. Side-effects are extremely minimal especially compared to conventional medical treatments.
  • Are there any side effects to acupuncture?
One of the beautiful advantages to acupuncture is that it has little to no negative side effects. Probably the most serious side-effects that we see is mild bruising or soreness at the acupuncture site.
  • What does acupuncture feel like?
During acupuncture treatment, some people may feel sensations like tingling, heaviness, cramping, distension, or "electricity". Any discomfort is usually mild and temporary. The main effect of acupuncture tends to be a sense of relaxation or euphoria.
  • How often do I need to get acupuncture?
The frequency of treatment depends on your medical condition. It's common for new patients to receive treatment more frequently, perhaps three times per week, then reduce to once per week as their condition improves, then to even less frequently once they are doing well. We will discuss your needs and design your treatment plan at your first appointment.
  • What is cold laser therapy?
Cold laser therapy is the process of using laser light at various colors to accelerate wound healing. There is a huge body of researching showing how cold (low) level laser therapy can speed up repair of bone fracture, ligament/muscle/tendon tears, cartilage damage, and even nerve damage. Cold laser therapy can also reduce inflammation. The lasers used in our clinic are some of the strongest and most sophisticated medical lasers available.
